Tradition Is Alive at Christmas in Charles County, Maryland
In early December, the smell of fresh greens, the crackle of a fire, and the sound of carols await visitors along The Charles County Holiday Trail.
Comprising many of the area’s cultural attractions, the Holiday Trail offers locals and tourists alike an opportunity to get into the spirit of the season during an activity-packed weekend.
From December 6 - 8, two contemporary sites and eight of the area’s historic sites will open to the public and invite visitors to travel back through centuries to experience everything from Christmas in Early America to the holiday season during Victorian times.
The sites featured include historic Friendship House , Mount Carmel Monastery , Smallwood Retreat House , Thomas Stone National Historic Site, Mount Aventine , the Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House Museum , the African American Heritage Society , the Port Tobacco Courthouse , the Kris Kringle Market at the Charles County Fair , and the Mattawoman Creek Art Center.
